just wondering if anyone can help with a rough idea how long it can take to get an eviction notice from the court?
I'm buying a house that has a tenant, she has been served notice 21 but refuses to leave [ the 2 months ended last week], and she wants to be evicited so she can get housed by the council. It is a private landlord but she is on benefits and apparently the rent is still being paid.  I'm keen to buy the house asap, and wondered what happens next. Anyone throw some light on it please, thanks

Make it a condition of the purchase that the tenant is out before you complete.
Your solicitor can sort that at out (it's a more detailed version of "vacant possession")

If you buy the house with a sitting tenant who wants to be evicted, you have a problem.
If you don't buy the house until the tenant is gone, the seller has a problem.

If the tenant is meant to have left and hasn't so far, it doesn't feel like everything is going to be simple.

thanks for replying.
I've read through various Q & A's on here, I'm still unsure how long the process of all this can take. The tenant is pregnant and has a 5 yr old child, so that should help with the council re-homing her; I hope!! Her not moving is holding up the purchase of the property and the sale of mine. I'm not buying it with her as the tenant.

Erica, there is no simple answer, between a week and a year, depending on circumstance. Most likely 12 weeks  I would guess.

Sorry.
