Notice under section 239 for disrepair of house

Hi,

I have received letter from council for my property where I am currently living with my wife and daughter. The notice says " we have received information indicating that there is Disrepair which may be causing nuisance or hazard at this property". Therefore a council officer will visit the property to access the situation.
I am not sure what does it mean. Few months ago we had a lodger who was evicted due to creating nuisance and was also reported to the police. Since then we have not taken anybody and do not have any intention to take any lodger or tenant. I believe he may have given wrong information to council and that's why they have arranged this visit.
I am asking forum to help me in this matter. what steps do we need to take to avoid this notice. I also have another property which is just next to my existing one where my parents live in who are out of country at the moment. I have received letter for the other property as well. Both the properties are in my name and the council officer is visiting them on the same day and at the same time.

If there are no issues, no disrepair, and you have nothing to hide, allow the visit and put the situation to bed.

The council will not come out a second time if the first visit resolved the issue.

I presume they have information that there is possibly something that requires repair to allow safe living conditions...ie mould, central heating etc

Thanks for the reply. Can they force me to change doors to fire safety doors if only owner is living in the house?

I would think there may be a possibility that they could suggest it, but if you are not renting any part of it out again then I can't see how they can force you.

I reckon it would be different if it were currently tenanted.

They may request future checks to ensure you aren't renting it.

I'd be inclined to call them and say it is currently not being rented, and you have no future intention of renting again.  Is the visit necessary, and if so, what would be the point as you are not intending to rent it in the future.
