Tenant wants to leave and is asking for how much notice.
Tenancy period is from the 10th of the month.
Legally / technically would the notice they provide be for 1 month from 10 September, so the 10th of October?

I don't want to hold them there that long as they have plans. Is there a problem with me saying 1 month from today?

If it's a statutory periodic tenancy, it's at least a month, ending on the last day of a tenancy period. So 9th October. If it's a statutory periodic tenancy, whatever the tenancy agreement says. If it's a fixed term, they can't serve notice at all, but can leave on the last day.

If you agree something different, that makes the notice valid.

Thanks. I'll agree something else with him to facilitate their plans.
