Is there anything you can do about the agent hiring people who overcharge and don't do a proper job. There was a problem with my boiler and the agent sorted out a repair but never told me what was done. Cost nearly £300. Two months later the pump went and this cost another £170 and then a month later the thermostat went which was £230...a new boiler would have been cheaper!! I knew the boiler was very old.  The agent made it sound urgent and pressured me into this but I'm certain I've been conned. Is there anything I can do?

I always ask the agent to provide 3 quotes. I've been in this situation and found that if you ask for a couple of quotes, and even ask contractors who are not on the agents list to quote, then you can get a good job done at a realistic price.
