Hi Folks

A tenant living in my BTL has left the property without telling me and so now I want the council tax bill to come in my name.  However, the council tax office want proof that the tenant is no longer living in my BTL.

Can someone be kind enough to advice how to prove this?

Thanks

If the tenant is still bound by a signed lease, they are legally obliged to pay the council tax for the remainder of the lease. If on a periodic agreement, they should still be expected to give a month's notice. It is up to the council to pursue them for money owed.I had a tenant who cleared off,and I was able to give her father's details to council, utilities etc.
I am assuming that you have entered the property, having given the tenant  correct warning in writing/text of your visit? If so I would take photos of empty wardrobes, fridge etc. if you know you are now responsible. I am astonished, our council would snatch your hand off, never mind expecting you to prove you owe them money!
