Hi All,

Happy New year.

I wondered if someone could help point me in the right direction with paying tax.

If you had a property with tenenants in it from April 2022.

How do i pay the tax i owe on it for April 2022 - April 2023

I have read the governments website but i must admit find it hard to understand.

This is the link i have read: https://www.gov.uk/renting-out-a-property/paying-tax

Is it as simple as doing the Self Assesment Tax return?

(property does not earn a huge mount)

Thank you

When you began to let the property in April 2022, you were meant to advise HMRC of your new source of income.
So do that now.

As long as the first day of the first tenancy was after 5th April 2022, you should be fine and HMRC will probably ask for a tax return after April 6th 2023.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I PM'd you actually.

Couple of questions.

1) How do i notify them? it doest not seem clear on their website...... - and then do they contact me after that asking me to fill out tax returns around april 2023?

2) will i need to provide mortgage papers, rental agreements etc upfront?

Thank you

If you've got tax to pay before this tax year.
Or call them (it takes a while to get through) if it's this tax year.

And no, unless they decide to review your tax return.
An accountant might want to see the documents.
