Please can you confirm the dates to use for an assured shorthold tenancy.  The term is 6 months starting 1.4.14.  What should the end date read?  I am wary of this as last time I looked at this some years ago the dates were out by one day and could have affected a Section 21 I was issuing.  Please let me know what you think.

I would think the last day of September is the last day of the 6 month period. The 1st of October would be the first day of the 7th month. If you're issuing a section 21 it has to be with at least 2 months notice and end on the last day of a rental period.  So if your agreement started on the 1st April for 6 (calendar) months and after the 6 months you let the agreement roll into a periodic agreement and then you decide you want them out you could give them the notice on or before the last day of the current month (say October) with the notice dated for the last day of the month 2 away (which would be December 31st). If you hand them the notice on any day in October even the 1st, you still date the notice for the 31st December, even though this is effectively a 3 month period. Hope that makes sense!!
