I went to do a 6 weekly check on my student tenants yesteday,  Yes I am having to do 6 weekly otherwise there would be no house left!  On the previous check of the house it wasn't too bad.  I thought I was finally getting through to them and I asked for their support to keep it clean and tidy because we are receiving student viewings for next year.  Yesterday however was pretty dia, the kitchen was in an awful greasy sticky state.  I don't know how they manage to leave puddles of water all over the work tops, the microwave, cooker and hob are disgusting as is the floor.  They have even managed to heavily soil one of the roller blinds.  It was renovated 2 years ago to a high standard and since then I have had students in there before these and they were absolutely fine.  How can I get through to this lot so that prospective tenants won't be put off and potentially they won't do any more damage?  I forgot to mention that they receive a letter and report after every check detailing the findings and what needs to be done.  Is there anything else I can do?

I would appreciate any advice.  Thank you

Hi its a modern day mystery!! i have two  lads 18 and 22 and despite cajoling and threats they both manage to lose their bedroom floors and wallow in filth!! they do clean up but always need telling and telling and telling just to remind them- they dont appear to see the mess when they are concentrating so hard on their studies/ps3.

however i have also got female bedsit dwellers and amazingly they can actually be worse than the lads. within three weeks one managed to use all the crockery and then i find it on the floor of her room covered in mould and food and added to the mountain of clothes shoes makeupo and overflowing bins it was not a pretty sight. her dad saw it and went ballistic (he was paying the bond). :'(

what about the threat of getting cleaner in weekly at their expense ( mums and dads wouldn't be too impressed with that ;)

Hi, thanks for that.  Yes you are definitely right.  I don't think I could be a landlord for my daughter, as much as I love her very much, she would do my head in!

I think a verbal threat of them paying for cleaner might be a bit of a wakeup call, hopefully!

Thanks again, hope you have a great weekend :-)
