I have the opportunity to let out a flat for 6 months can I still use the AST tenancy agreement or is there a separate contract?

Riptide

6 months is a standard let time, not a short term let.

Hello Riptide,

Does this mean a yearly let is long term?

Strictly speaking a long term let I think is 7 years, this is when the tenancy needs to be registered with land registry.

Thats commercial mind.

Personally I only ever use the standard 6 months, this is "normal" in my eyes.

People seem to want longer though, but I actually think its driven by Agents who see Annual contracts which are renewed as a licence to print money!

Hippogriff

The minimum, and normal, fixed term for an AST is 6 months.

I hope you do not need to move back in to the flat at the exact time the 6 months passes... obviously you could run into trouble if the Tenant decides to stay on. I'm not saying that would ever happen, it could all go swimmingly well, but just we aware that because your AST is for a fixed term of 6 months it does not necessarily mean your Tenant will move in on the first day and move out on the last day. Important if you need the property yourself at a fixed point in time.

No, just standard again really.
