I have just agreed that a longer-term Tenant can take a bathroom refit under their control and I will just agree the quote from one of the professionals they get quotes from and - eventually - pay the bill when they say they're happy.

Am I mad?

Possibly. I've certainly never done this before, and I'd not recommend it. However, I tried to get bathroom quotes in back in February this year and that meant I had to go over there, meet with people, explain what I wanted (when it's the Tenants who're living there) and get the quotes in, do a bit of the old haggle and then... well, for various reasons that were not my fault, it never actually happened.

Now we're revisiting it, I suggested I let them loose with it... within a budget (a pretty significant one) and they've gone for it. They've indicated they'd stay on for a few more years yet and I can't imagine their vision of a revamped bathroom could be something a normal person would end up hating... but, still, a new way of going about something, for me.

I feel all edgy. Will I be crying into my coffee come the new year?

If it's in budget, it'll still be a bathroom, unless they're getting rid of the bath and wet rooming it or something similar.

EDIT:  Just saw the thread title.  Not going to be much of a bathroom for a grand!

It's Yorkshire... I reckon there'll be a lot of gold in it for that. You can buy class.

Could you say that you want to approve the final design,  just to ensure it will add value to your property and they're not adding three washbasins and two toilets or something daft?

I'll approve quotes... but the final design will actually be theirs. That was the thing that swung the idea for them - they'll get their bathroom rather than them getting my bathroom.

They've not actually got anyone to quote yet... so...
