Guys, I want to share this and see if anyone has any thoughts.

Via my agent I today received an enforcement notice saying my property would be visited, entered and have property seized. Apparently I owe £1500. This came out of the blue. I live in the USA currently and I have an agent looking after letting and managing the property and I assumed this was a scam or an error of some sort. The scam referred to Council Tax so I called the council and they said I did owe it and they'd been sending my agent bills since August 2019!!! I spoke with the enforcement agents and they have been engaged by the council to collect my bad debt.

I now have 10 days to pay or they'll take the enforcement action. Any idea if this sort of thing will affect my credit etc..?

Obviously I have to pay it but I'm annoyed that the agent never said anything and I'm annoyed with the council that they never said anything when I called them in April and May to pay 20/21 invoices.

I'm going to tell the agent they have to pay my fees so far about £150.

Grrrr

Pay the debt first. Then try to get the agent to pay any debt-collection fees. Then sack the agent.

Yes I paid it and emailed the agent asking for their comments and what they plan to do. When they reply I'll decide if they keep my business.

Possibly a daft question, but given that this is a landlord forum; why are your tenants not responsible for paying the council tax?
