I own a duplex and have two tenants.  One has been living in my duplex for 37 years.  He is a bit of a pain, but pays his rent on time and takes care of the property.  My other tenant (a gal of about 52) who has lived in the duplex less than two years, absolutely hates my long term tenant.  Tortures him by turning up her stereo surround sound system until he gets ticked off and yells at her to turn it down.  Recently he went over to her front screen door, which was locked,  and shook it to get her to listen to him.  Her response was to call the police stating he tried to break into her home and she feared for her life.  Believe me this woman is devious piece of work.  She has no problem calling him names and slamming the door in his face if he complains to her.  My reprimands to her mean absolutely nothing.  After a few instances I just can't take it anymore and decided to evict her.   She just got her 60 day notice.  Now my fear is she will sue me for not protecting her from my horrible violent long term tenant.  She has suggested to me via e-mail she may take this path.   Is it my responsibility to protect two tenants who hate each other from each other?
If I had a choice between several root canals and putting up with tenants, I would gladly take the root canals.

In the UK, in no way would I comment on or take sides in this dispute as as you say, if the other tenant had a different landlord, what would happen?

Well it's a bit more complicated.  This guy has been my family tenant for 37 years and he has a mild form of aspergers.  I feel kinda protective.
