My tenant of 18 months has decided to buy a dog. Worried about the additional possibility of damage I took a 'pet deposit' of £ 250.

My question is does this additional deposit have to be protected and lodged with DPS or can it remain a gentlemens agreement ? I've looked on the DPS web site and it doesnt see easy to add a deposit to a already existing one any way.

Yes.

It is a deposit.

Deposits need to be protected. It can't be any more black and white... just like the penalty awarded against a Landlord who fails to protect a deposit.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if deposits could be a Gentleman's Agreement... for unscrupulous Landlords... guess which approach everyone would choose? Mess around with these silly Deposit Protection organisations, or just stuff it in your bank account... hmm.

The DPS website has a big button - with a big green plus sign on it - "Add additional payment".

Maybe you didn't want to see it? Haw-haw. I get it. It's very easy. Good luck.

I assumed Custodial, of course...
