hi,

My house has been empty since November, whilst I have  been doing a refurbishment.   During this time, the  energy supplies have been continuous [ as it's winter, the heating is on minimum, as required by house insurance policy]    British Gas have set up a temporary account, valid til the next tenant moves it, - but the standing charges are extremely high, in my opinion.  They began at roughly £1.50 per day,  but now are a bit less, I think.    My questions are :  Do I have to be on the temporary tariff with the high standing charges, or can I  use a standard tariff?  Also, am I amble to swap energy providers from this type of account?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

Yes, of course you can go on whatever tariff, or company, you want to... this is routine, matter of course... Tenants move out and the bill is transferred to you, Tenants move in and you transfer it to them... the tariff doesn't need to change at all... unless you were sold the idea by someone you spoke to in a Call Centre when doing that... they'll be rubbing their hands in glee.

I have these magic beans... would you like to buy them..?

I was given a free month's Landlord Tariff, only a month but at least it's something then moved on to a standard tarif. I guess not all energy suppliers offer this? You should shop around, always.

You can go on any tariff or company provider you wish. As long as you inform the provider as soon as the tenant moves in, change the details ASAP.
