Has anybody had Romanian tenants? what were they like as tenants? Some are coming to view my house house tonight

Riptide

If they can't be credit checked, have a decent, check able renting history and don't speak fluent English then "I'm oot"

Sledgehammer

I suspect that just like any other nationality of tenant some will be great and some will not be so great. They are after all human beings!

If the original question had been "Has anybody had black tenants? what were they like as tenants?" it would be unacceptable. Just as this question is as well, really.

Please be careful...

"Race discrimination is illegal in housing, as well as in employment and training, education, the provision of goods and services, and any public authority activity.

Race discrimination covers discrimination on the grounds of an individual's race, nationality, colour, citizenship, or ethnic or national origins.
"

I do not accuse you of this kind of discrimination, I think you are asking a genuine question, but it is sailing very close to the wind. As a Landlord you have the right to let your property to who you want, but you really cannot discount someone because of their nationality, so if you decide not to let to potential Tenants who are Romanian, please be very sure of what your reasoning behind that is.

Is it wise to be so straight when you can find other reasons to let them down and not hurt their feelings? landlords tend to discriminate on many things (DSA status, Facebook etc) so why is nationality any different? anyway they didn't follow up and i've today rented it out to a Polish family. GF is Polish so no translation issues, it's a couple, his parents and his kid. Sounds cramped but they're happy with it. I would like to send a big thanks to you all that have helped me on this site. I'll still be lurking about and posting when I can but if I don't have any problems I won't be that active as my experience is limited and I don't want to be giving any poor advice.

Polish you say?  Uh oh.............

Ellis Rimmer

You're right I should've learned from my GF...  ;D
