Hi all.
My tenant told me yesterday he found a half eaten protein bar and he said he thinks it's a mouse. I told him that I will go into the property to check it this week and sort it.
He is now threatening me to give my details to the council's pest control department!
How do I deal with that??
I already said to him that I am in touch with the freeholders and a pest control company and that it will be sorted this week (he only told me yesterday..!)
I am obviously worried with the threats. Please advise.

Get pest control in ASAP! Let the tenant know when they are coming and until they visit any reasonable person would understand.

Ask your tenant what else they would like you to do?

Thanks!
Do I have to get pest control in or can I sort it myself by putting in mesh wire and expandable foam in the entry points and rat bait in the flat to catch any mice inside the property?

I am on the top floor flat and the other flats below me do not have mice. So it is totally weird that the tenant states that he has mice and the other flats do not!

Is it my responsibility to sort it?

Well first of all establish whether you actually do have mice 😬

Interesting you are on the top floor - IF there is an infestation there may well be evidence in the loft space. In any case trying to treat a mice infestation without knowing where to look and what to look for, is more difficult than nailing jelly to the ceiling. GET PEST CONTROL IN and take the initial cost on the chin - you can always go to the other residents / freeholder later. What you don't need is finding a tenant has good reason to complain to you about infestation.

As I have indicated another thread, what you have described does not in itself sound like a mouse infestation, but you should I think be seen to be treating it seriously and unless you are an expert - leave it to an expert.

Good luck🐭
