Macerator in the sole bathroom

Hi all

I'm looking into buying my first place. Is a nice space in a good area in London but with a dodgy refurb job done on it and -here's my big worry - a macerator in the only bathroom. Some plumbers tell me to avoid them like the plague, others say they are fine if looked after. Anyone have any experience of these in a rental flat..? After all, if they break then not having a toilet is a pretty serious issue for a tenant...

Would it be reasonable to add a clause into the contract which effectively says 'if it breaks because you have been flushing stuff other than toilet paper and poop down there, then you pay for the repair'?

Thanks!

I have one in a second bathroom in my rented house. They are a nightmare, i had to tell the tenants to be careful what they put down the thing. Not wishing to sound crude but they are ok to have widdle in but nothing else.

Stay away. Nobody would want to work on them...
