I purchased a property from my ex girlfriend as a settlement. i intend to move into the property myself. the tenant has other ideas. my ex sent the tenant an eviction letter in plenty of time before the end of the AST, as i was completing on the property. the tenant has said that as my ex is no longer the landlord then the letter is worthless. the rent stopped immediately and is now 8 week o/d. the tenancy has also expired. help. no house, no rent not in a section 8, a section 21 is now two months off cos the letter now needs to come from me. help help help

What the hell, your tenant sounds nuts.

If you're legally the owner of the property, you're now effectively the landlord, as I think the contract rollsover onto the new property owner.

Does the tenant just expect to stay there now forever without paying a penny?

I have heard of this before, i think you will find the problem starts when the ex forgets to add in the exchange etc about the tenant arrangements !
