Do tenants have a legal right to know who is a co-owner of a property?

Hi there. I've had a series of questions from a tenant who has just moved out where he has become very persistent in asking to know the name of the co-owner of my flat (as he claims it is his legal right)

I let the property to him, through an agent, and my name is on as the landlord. Although it is shared ownership with an ex-partner there is no issue between us and they were happy for me to let it out.

My understanding is that the tenant only has the legal right to know who their landlord is but has no legal right to demand to know who the owner is. I'm very reluctant to divulge that if I don't have to as I'm nervous as to why he wants to know.

I've trawled the web to see if I can find any clarity on it but all I can see is that a tenant has a legal right to know their landlord but not the property co-owners.

If anyone can help thanks in advance!

I would think the key point is that it's not secret information... it could be obtained from the Land Registry for the princely sum of £3.

So, whether they have the right to know or not is actually kind of a red-herring... as they, or me or the next door neighbour, has the ability to know.

HI Hippogriff

Yes that's why I'm puzzled about the insistent questioning over it.

5 mins on Google will tell them how they can find out.

It's almost as if they want it in writing from me so that they can do something with it....or maybe Im just being paranoid!

They see a scab, they want to pick it!

Horrible people.

Ignore it.

Just moved out you say?  If you've had everything you need from these people if file any other requests into the ignore draw.

Thanks Riptide. I would but I'm trying to agree a price on damage caused and they suddenly started to get very persistent on that point and wanting it in writing. As stated all I can see is that they have a legal right to know their landlords, of which all correct information is on the contract they signed via the agent (who also doesn't understand why they're asking) - so I still have no idea why they are insisting I put the co-owners name in writing even though I have verbally told them who it is. Puzzling.

Give them the name and address of your brother/sister etc and see what they are up to.
