Hi.

First time posting.
I am a live in landlady and I have a lodger who's lodger agreement expired on the 17th July 2012. She wants to stay until the 26th of July 2012. How many days extra should she pay? I said she has to pay 10days and she said its 9days?? What is the right answer???

Thanks for advice in advance.

The right answer is 9 days for it's best to not disgruntle a tenant/lodger on their last days over trivial amounts of money.

If the lodger agreement expired at midnight on 17th July then she was presumably paid up until that point already.  So the new rent starts from the next day (18th), and is for 9 days.

Why quibble over a day anyway, as Armin said?  If you have had a good lodger then why leave a sour taste in the mouth?  Life is too short for that.

Hello maz121,

Sorry if you think everyone is ganging up on you, but if the rent is (say) £300 pm then that works out to £10 per day.  Are you really that desperate for a tenner?
