Hi,

Does anyone know of any independent roofers in the West London area ?  I have been getting some really over priced quotes for minor repair /maintenance work.

If anyone has used one recently or can suggest someone please respond. 

If several quotes are around the same level then maybe these are industry prices.  I know many contractors are extremely busy right now after works, such as roofing, went undone for most of the pandemic.

If you get a cheap quote right now then you might well be paying for low level or unqualified work.

Why must they be independent?

Because a larger company will charge more for their labourers. A company will generally charge more to cover their costs.

I agree with roofers being busy right now. I'm not sure about cheaper quotes meaning unqualified or low level work. I believe many roofers quote high because many people happily pay without researching or knowing the costs guidelines.

For roof maintenance consisting of clearing out gutters/ low pressure wash to clear lichen/ moss/ treatment and replacing one to six standard roof tiles should cost no more than £250 but I have been quoted up to 2k.

You're right that cheaper doesn't automatically mean unqualified but I'd question any contractor who isn't busy right now.

I am always wary of people thinking they know the prices better than the contractors.

I am sure all these trained, qualified and skilled Roofers particularly enjoy turning up to quote and then having the OP explain to them it's 8x too much.

As an approach to haggling, it's an interesting one.
