No deposit, AST not signed, how do i give notice?

Hello, could someone please help me.  Just over a year ago, I rented out my property to a family member.  Trying to help, I didn't take a deposit or rent in advance.  I did do an AST but foolishly, I didn't get it signed and I didn't sign it either.  I don't charge rent at the going rate as I was happy that a family member was my tenant and I knew they couldn't afford it.  Anyway, for various reasons, I want my house back and the tenant is playing hardball, having rented in the past, they know the legalities of procedure, and me being a complete novice thinking I was helping out, but this has now back fired on me.  How do I get them out and my house back.  Ive been told to issue a Section 21(4)(a) or maybe (b), but Im not sure.  Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Yes a section 21 is appropriate, giving min 2 months notice, having at least two full months from the effective start date of the tenancy.

Given it's personal, and they know the system I would pay a solicitor to do it.
