Good morning all.  Our tenants have moved out and we have advised them that we will be claiming for damage to cupboards caused by water being left to overflow.  They are now counterclaiming that during their tenancy they had to break down a bedroom door as the catch had stuck (the lady was inside)and replace it at their expense.  They now want reimbursing although we knew nothing of the situation and may have handled it differently.  Any thoughts?

Riptide

Ignore and use the deposit scheme dispute resolution.

HandyMan

I agree with Riptide.

They clearly didn't believe this was a fault that you should pay for at the time and they probably don't have any substantive evidence for it.

The dispute resolution assessor will base their decision on evidence presented, not hearsay.

One would not usually expect to smash a door in to sort out a broken catch. They quite rightly paid for this at the time,so this claim is just nonsense.Agree with both responses above.
