I was wondering if there are any vital clauses which are sometimes overlooked in your opinion?

You aren't writing your own tenancy agreement are you? There are numerous resources from where you can obtain well written, legally correct agreements.

I would have thought the letting agent would give me a generic tenancy and I simply amend as I see fit.

Some agents might work like that. But most will have a preferred agreement that they manage to. And, unless you are proficient in legal drafting, you don't want to be changing legal documents.

I'd definitely recommend using a well established standard agreement (and not messing about with it).

Will letting agents provide a standard draft agreement, or is this something that I must find?

I've never met an agent who didn't have their own agreement. Have you tried talking to some?
