I recently changed accountant as I was ripped off £100 for little more than putting something in envelope and posting it.  Have got a new accountant now, however he says that work completed by my family is non deductable (tenants trashed property, had to have in builders and plumber but decorating from top to bottom and laying of new carpet and flooring was done by myself, friends and family) I hate that those scumbags left the property disgusting and inhabitable and got away with it but now it seems I cant even claim tax back on a lot of the work completed.  Is there no way round this

of course there is. just get one of the people who helped you to give you an invoice for the work done.
accountants just need to see evidence-they love it ha ha.

in your accounts you should have a column for repairs and maintenance just enter the costs under this. if he wont put it in get a new accountant. presumably you have invoices for the materials anyway?
