We have a property  which we are about to sell within the next two weeks and expect to sign & exchange contracts this week,

There are existing property insurance & British gas maintenance policies on which the monthly debit is due on the 15th July, would we be jumping the gun so to speak in cancelling said policies?

the prospective purchaser is hoping to move into the premises next week, I'm off the mind that its ok,

opinions & thoughts please

I reckon you might be too late to cancel for July now, anyway, since direct debits requests are put through to your bank a fair bit before their due date. Even if you'd tried on the 6th, when you posted, it might have been too late then. That aside, I'd have probably cancelled the gas maintenance plan but not the insurance. Worst case scenario would be a boiler/heating problem that wasn't covered, but at least the property would be covered if there were any major problems, like a fire or leak.
