i am renting a small one bed house,was thinking of getting an electricty and gas card meter installed i know the bills would be bigger for my tenants but would also be easier for them to pay,,
do u think a card meter would put off future tenants from renting or be a bonus?
cheers mac933  ::)

Hello mac,

My personal viev of card meters is they advertise your property as being appropriate for chavs.  Why do you want to do something which makes your tenants utility bills more expensive?  Why not remove the loft insuation at the same time so it gets more expensive to heat, too (sorry - not my best analogy there but I hope you see the point)

I'd recommend pre-payment meters ONLY if you rent to multiple parties and they have a history squabbling over paying the bills to an extent that you as the landlord are faced with hassle like dealing with utility companies who try to hold you accountable for them.

Which you shouldn't be, unless you rent out the property furnished, then it's possible that you get stuck with the bills provided the tenants have disappeared. Happened to me, perhaps I should have fought harder against it, but it happened to me all the same.
