Hi all
My tenant, who abandoned the property in April, has not been seen since. He has left a lot of clothes etc in my property - about 30 bin bags in all. Bearing in mind his contract was till End December 2019, how long do I have to keep his 'stuff' for? I dont know much about clothes, but am told that some of it is quite expensive.
I don't expect to see him again. He owes a lot of rent and bailiffs have been sniffing round the house.

I would say that all bets are off now, regardless of what the contract says.He clearly does not intend keeping to his side of the bargain.I would be off to the charity shop/tip without further ado.You won't see him again,so don't worry.

I would 'sort' the clothes... and assess them, I'd be checking the sizes and have my fingers crossed... my t-shirts are from Sports Direct (3 for £11) and my combats are from Tesco (£12). Then, who could ever tell if there was 30 bags... or 3? No-one, that's who.

How long? Legally? Well, it's "a reasonable time" (bit grey, that, isn't it?)... that reasonable time has clearly passed. You should probably keep a record of you trying to reach the Tenant / ex-Tenant and giving them opportunity to collect... being silent on the matter (even if you know any communication would go into a black hole) is not the best idea.

A few SMS messages to a Pay As You Go mobile number that you know doesn't work any more is a really good idea.

If he had a girlfriend or was into cross dressing, can I have first dibs on any decent handbags or size 8 petite dresses please?

Hilarious guys (and Girls!)  Thanks for all the replies. I certainly needed the humour after all the cr*p of the last few months. Sorry no handbags in any of his stuff!
