As some of you may have read in another thread, I'm currently attempting to dispense with the services of a letting agency and go it alone.

One of the reasons for ditching the agent is that their poor communication recently led to me mistakenly thinking that the tenants weren't responding to any attempts to get hold of them and the agent serving a Section 21. By talking directly to the tenants everything was sorted out and I'm happy for them to stay as tenants.

As the agent served the Section 21, is it up to them to retract it or can I do it? Does it even need to be retracted?

Hippogriff

No.

It does not need retracting.

Whilst Hippo is correct I'd advise you to read the notice that was served and convince yourself it is correctly filled out (given your agent wasn't very good).
It will still be valid (assume your tenancy agreement started before October 2015) and therefore you may be relying on it at some point.

Best of luck.

Many thanks to you both. It looks legit so I'll just leave it hanging in case things turn sour in the future.
