Is it possible to claim part of my council tax / water rates / gas / electricity etc against tax ? I manage my two BTL myself and spend increasing amounts of time in my back bedroom typing and printing stuff.

Hippogriff

For that number of properties you are probably best off claiming a blanket £2 per week... £104 per year. HMRC let this pass without inspection.

Maybe time to consider buying the following book (or the most current version) - (I didn't write it).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Save-Property-Carl-Bayley/dp/1907302859

Book is also an allowable expense.  :-*

I see those books, get really good reviews...

but he also has a book, 'How to avoid Property Tax', I wonder what the difference is between this one and the 'How to save Property Tax' ?

Hippogriff

The connotation behind "avoid" == "evade".

Swagman

Yeah, I just looked again at the actual tax café site...  they only sell the 'save' version, then looking at Amazon I see that the 'Avoid' one is dated 2012....

Cheers for the info
