An increasing number of homebuyers are researching the mortgage market on the internet and an estimated 20% are prepared to sign up a deal online without advice from a professional.

New research conducted by Yorkshire Building Society and yourmortgage.co.uk has revealed that 95% of people looking for a mortgage will use the internet at some stage, with one in five prepared to complete the full mortgage application online.

I've always gone through a broker because it was easy. A broker will shuffle through a 100 deals and pull out the best one for you. Probably not the best deal available, but the best deal on his system.

Next time i'll go to a broker and look online for myself, and use the best deal.

Have you ever signed up for a mortgage online, by doing your own hunting?

I did my research online but the exact details and options were only available once I'd gone into the bank branch and had the conversation. I'm not sure I'd trust a broker at all - the ones I've dealt with in the past didn't seem to look out for my interests at all, and produced worst offers than the ones I got from my own bank.
